ShaNa Benner

SHANA BENNER

PRESIDENT

ShaNa is a 1992 Mapleton graduate.  She then attended NCSC where she graduated with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Nursing.  After receiving her Registered Nursing license, ShaNa worked for two years in the Beachwood area before returning to Ashland and starting a family.  She currently is the Executive Director at The Inn at Ashland Woods.

ShaNa currently lives in Nova with her husband Jeff and their family.  In her free time, ShaNa enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Fred Hartzler

FRED HARTZLER

BOARD MEMBER

Fred Harztler has lived in the Mapleton School District with his family for 19 years. He and his
wife, Mindy, have been married for 29 years. They have five children, Shayleen who graduated
from Mapleton in 2015, Shila, a 2019 graduate of Mapleton, Sheldon is a 2023 graduate of
Mapleton, Shaiden is currently a Junior at Mapleton, and Shaw a fifth grader also at Mapleton.
He is a 1991 Norwayne High School graduate and he attended Akron University for four years.

He is a self-employed dairy farmer. He is also a member of the Maple Grove Church of the
Brethren.

 

 

 

 

 

Vince Hartzler

VINCE HARTZLER

BOARD MEMBER

Vince has lived in the Mapleton School District with his family for 16 years.  He has been married to Courtney, who is a teacher at Ashland City Schools for 25 years.  They have three sons, 19-year-old Luke who graduated from Mapleton in 2022, 16-year-old Dylan who is a Junior and 14-year-old Tyler who is a freshman. 

He is employed as an estimator at Simonson Construction Services, Inc.  He has degrees from the University of Akron and Walsh University.  He is a graduate of Leadership Ashland.  He and Courtney also serve as youth ministry leaders at Cross Connect Church.  He and Courtney have been involved in various groups at Mapleton including PTO, youth sports coaching and the levy committee.  He is looking forward to working with the Mapleton staff and community to serve the students and prepare them for success.   

  

Mindy Scurlock

MINDY SCURLOCK

VICE PRESIDENT

Mindy Scurlock is a 1996 Ashland High School graduate.  She then began her career at Brethren Care Village, where she has been employed since 1999.  Mindy is currently the Chief Executive Officer.

Mindy is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Ashland and a 2011 graduate of Lifework Leadership Development Program.  She currently serves on the Leadership Ashland Steering Committee and the Ashland County Community Foundation Women's Fund.  Mindy has previously served on the Mapleton Music Boosters as an officer, and participated in fundraising and support for the Mapleton Sideliners Club.

Mindy has resided in the Mapleton School District since 2000 with her husband, John and children Madison, a 2017 Mapleton graduate, and Gage a 2020 Mapleton graduate.

Mindy looks forward to serving the Mapleton community.

Career Advising

We are participating in Career Connections! The goal of this program is to provide connections between classroom learning and future career possibilities. Throughout the school year, students will participate in a number of Career Exploration activities. These will include field trips, guests speakers from local businesses and exercises completed on Naviance and much more! See the attached file at the bottom of the page for more information.

 

Child Find Statement

In an effort to serve young people with disabilities, Mapleton Local Schools is continually in the process of locating and evaluating children from birth to 21 years of age who are suspected as having a disability.  Disabilities may include developmental delays, health impairments, autism, and traumatic brain injury.  Individuals may contact local school districts about children who may have a disability and may be eligible for special education services. Department of Education and Workforce Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship

The Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who are eligible to attend kindergarten through 12th grade and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their district. The amount of each scholarship will be based on the primary disability condition identified on the student's Evaluation Team Report (ETR). Students must be enrolled in the scholarship program for the entire program year to receive the full scholarship amount.
